On Monday, 10/13, the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Lab will have two promising new technologies on display from 6-8 p.m. Please mark your calendars and come on by to see the future of transportation...
Here's what we'll have for you: 1. A prototype Diesel-Hybrid Truck provided by Kenworth. This is one of the first BIG RIGS to employ hybrid diesel-electric technology. In stop-and-go applications, these hybrids can reduce fuel consumption by up to 30%. We are certain to see more of these in the future and are very lucky to have one of the first prototypes on display at JMU.
2. A prototype Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV). Without question, electric vehicles will be a part of future transportation systems. This is because they are compatible with so many of the alternative energy resources that are being developed: Wind, Solar, Hydro, and even Nuclear all yield electricity. As oil runs out, these clean, renewable forms of energy can be used to power our vehicles. JMU will have a special 6-passenger electric vehicle on display for faculty and students to interact with. This neighborhood vehicle is designed not only to be compatible with renewable energy, but also to promote energy conservation. In the future, people will need to live closer to their work, shopping, and entertainment. Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV) are sure to play a large role in serving these new communities. These vehicles, along with the ongoing student projects at the AFV, will be on display from 6-8 p.m. at that Alternative Fuel Vehicle Lab on South Main Street (Directly across the street from Wendy's, El Charro, and Bourbon Street - within the fenced lot, 1st big white building on the left). SoooOOoOooOoooo come on out and take a look at tomorrow, today!!
